QV Career Talks - Plants for Space
This Virtual Experience is partnered with the ARC Centre of Excellence in Plants for Space where they will share research stories that explore the future of plants and agriculture on Earth and in Space. It will highlight how research into growing plants in Space can benefit sustainability goals on Earth and provide tangible outcomes for a more resilient food production chain.
Students will have the opportunity to hear about current projects and participate in a Q&A session.

Dr Frazer Thorpe
Frazer is currently Education and Engagement Manager at ARC Centre of Excellence Plants for Space, sharing research stories that explore the future of plants and agriculture on and off Earth. Frazer has a PhD in molecular plant biology. He has extensive experience as a teacher in school classrooms and in non-classroom based learning environments offering unique learning experiences to primary year through to tertiary students and teacher professional learning and coaching. Frazer uses multimodal approaches to navigate complicated ideas and topics. He builds partnerships and shares contemporary research to enrich curriculum and enhance critical thinking and enable students to solve authentic problems. He has previously taught in schools, Gene Technology Access Centre, Zoos Victoria, Museums Victoria, and iMOVE CRC.
Lieke van der Hulst
Lieke has been involved with research and industry in Agriculture, Food and Wine since she arrived in Australia in 2011, after finishing her Masters in Biotechnology in the Netherlands. Lieke completed a PhD in wine science, and following that worked in both wine research and university outreach for some years. The outreach and engagement position with the University of Adelaide lead to working in communication for the Waite Research Institute and now the ARC Centre of Excellence in Plants for Space. Lieke enjoys translating difficult scientific concepts to easy-to-understand context for the general public – like how research into growing plants in Space can benefit sustainability goals on Earth and provide tangible outcomes for a more resilient food production chain.
